Avoid Reddening of Cut Apples

You might have noticed that Apples when kept cut for more than an hour, it becomes red or brown. This happens even if you keep it in the refrigerators.The scientific reason behind this is the iron content in the apple reacts with oxygen to form hydrated ferrous oxide, which is also called rust. 

Now to avoid this, there is a simple trick. After you cut apples, if you want to keep it for a long time, smear the cut surface of the apple with Lemon juice. This would prevent iron to react with atmosphere and thus keeps the apple white.
