Tipped by: Deadly Tips on 2009-10-17
Diwali / Deevali / Deepavali / Dipawali / Dipavali is one of the greatest Indian festivals. It is a 3 day fest comprising of Naraka Chaturdashi, Amavasya and Bali Padyami. From history, it marks the days when Narakasura was killed by Krishna and when Bali was pushed into inside of earth called Patala loka. It is also celebrated in Nepal.

Indian's celebrate the fest with great joy by burning crackers. Crackers are indeed a great fun if everything is fine and safe. But not all the times it is totally safe. As the entire country burns crackers, the chances of fire accidents and burns are a lot.

People residing in cities can easily get medical aids immediately after a major accident occurs, but fire accidents at remote places cannot get the same attention and cure by authorities. They need to go for first aid treatment before carrying the victim to hospital and that is why a 24 hours help line is setup.

It is not a Governmental initiative, but it is from a New Delhi based plastic surgeon named Anup Dhir. Mr. Dhir has really shown his humanity by setting up a free helpline (free service, but not toll free number) where you can call anytime and inquire about first aid treatments for Cracker burns.
